Early Beginnings – 1923

According to Scout Heritage, in 1922 there were three Runcorn Scout Troops registered. “The Scouter” Magazine of August 1923 announced the creation of a 4th Runcorn Troop and warrants were issued to:

  • T. Minards – Scoutmaster
  • W.H. Moss – Assistant Scoutmaster

Both T. Minards and W.H. Moss also held the roles of Cub Master and Assistant Cub Master respectively and were issued their warrants between 15th June 1923 and 16th July 1923. This is the officially recognised creation of 4th Runcorn. The below article from the Runcorn Weekly News highlights the creation of a new Scout Troop in Runcorn, with it meeting initially in Brindley Street.

The below article highlights that within a few months of opening, 4th Runcorn had jointly won the annual sports competition, with Mr. T. Minards taking home the winners flag.

At some point during the 1920s it is assumed that 4th made the move to Bold Street, Runcorn – there are records of us being here at some point during the decade.
