Group Scout Leader

The Group Scout Leader is in charge of the Group and provides leadership to all the leaders in each Section.

Keith Marnell– Group Scout Leader

Keith has been involved with Scouts for nearly 40 years, from being a Water Sports Adviser and Venture Scout Leader, to Group treasurer and now Group Scout Leader. Keith gained a wealth of experience through being a school Governor for 20 years, 10 of which he served as vice chair of Governors. Keith took on the role of Group Scout Leader in September 2020. Keith has overseen the return to face to face Scouting after the Covid-19 pandemic and also lead the Group through various HQ improvements ahead of the return to the building in October 2021. The Centenary fundraising project was also successfully carried out during 2021-22 ahead of the Group’s Centenary celebrations in 2023. £25,000 was raised in just under 14 months which will be used for our centenary international as well as providing activities throughout the duration of the Centenary year.

 

Beavers

The Beaver Leader looks after the Beaver programme and runs the section with the help of the Assistant Beaver Leaders and Sectional Assistants.

Susan Fearn – Beaver Leader

Sue has been with 4th Runcorn since 2003 and has been a dedicated part of the Beaver Leadership team for 17 years now. She took on the role of Beaver Leader in 2014 and has been in the role ever since earning her Wood Badge back in 2018. She also received the Chief Scout’s 15 years service award in 2019.

Carly Harris – Beaver Leader

Carly started with 4th Runcorn back in 2018, she has quickly become a vital part of the Group and completed her Wood Badge in 2020. Carly was appointed as joint Beaver Leader in 2021.

Cubs

The Cub Scout Leader looks after the Cub Scout programme and runs the section with the help of the Assistant Cub Scout Leaders and Sectional Assistants

Mark Harris – Cub Scout Leader

Mark joined 4th Runcorn in 2019 taking over from interim Cub Leader Pam Barker. He has begun to stamp his own mark on the Section, bringing new activities and ideas to a flourishing Section.

David Caulfield – Assistant Cub Scout Leader

David joined 4th Runcorn in 2018 as an Occasional Helper, before making the leap to an Assistant Section Leader. He has become part of a solid Cub team who delivers a quality programme to the young people in the Cub Section.

Cheryl Marnell – Sectional Assistant

Cheryl originally started off at 1st Runcorn in 1983 as a Cub Leader and was a much loved part of the Group. She stepped back from 1st Runcorn in the early 1990’s before then returning to Scouting at 4th Runcorn to help Pam Barker with the Cub Section in 2018 when the Group were in desperate need of leaders. Cheryl has become part of a solid Cub team who delivers a quality programme to the young people in the Cub Section

Scouts

The Scout Leader looks after the Scout programme and runs the section with the help of the Assistant Scout Leaders and Sectional Assistants.

Matthew Marnell – Scout Leader

Matt has been a part of 4th Runcorn since 2003, working his way from a Beaver all the way through to Scouts. He returned as a Young Leader soon after leaving for Cestrian Explorers in 2011. Matt became an Assistant Scout Leader at 4th Runcorn in 2015 before taking on the role as Scout Leader in 2017 which he has held since. He was also an Assistant Unit Leader to the 24th World Scout Jamboree in North America in 2019. He earned his Wood Badge in 2019 and received a Commissioner’s Commendation for Good Service the same year. In 2020 he received his 5 years service award. In 2021, Matt was appointed joint Assistant District Commissioner – Scouts for Mersey Weaver and he was also awarded the Chief Scout’s Commendation for Good Service in 2021.

Lauren Eaton  – Assistant Scout Leader

Lauren started at 4th Runcorn in 2016 as an Occasional Helper. She made the change to Assistant Section Leader a year later and has been a vital part of the Scout Leadership team.

Mike Berridge – Section Assistant

Mike started at 4th Runcorn in 2017 as an Occasional Helper. He made the change to Assistant Section Leader in 2019 and also sits on the Group Executive Committee where he has been a vital part of the Group.

Sean Gibson – Sectional Assistant

Sean has been at 4th Runcorn since Beavers, moving through the Group until he decided to become a Young Leader upon leaving Scouts. He is now a Sectional Assistant and is a vital part of the Scout Leadership Team.

Young Leaders

The Young Leaders assist sections with the delivery of the programme. They are a vital part of the leadership team and take on responsibilities in agreement with their Section Leader

 

ASU and Sectional Support

We have several ASU members, and supporters who support our sections

David Walker

Dave has been at 4th Runcorn for over 30 years in which time he has served as Assistant Scout Leader and on the Group Executive Committee. Dave was occasionally been stand in for the Group Scout Leader over the years and has been a key part of 4th Runcorn in all his time at the Group. Dave stepped down as Assistant Section Leader at Scouts but has continued as an Occasional Helper whilst still sitting n the Group Executive Committee.

Paul Frodsham

Paul came all the way through the Group as a member before becoming an Assistant Scout Leader in 2002. Paul represented the Group when he attended the Jamboree back in 2007. He stepped back from his role as Assistant Scout Leader, but continues to support the Group as an ASU member.

Barry Newport

Barry has been a vital part of 4th Runcorn Scout Group for over 40 years and in this time has gained a wealth of experience in several different roles. This includes: Scout Leader, District Scout Leader, Jamboree Unit Leader at the 21st World Scout Jamboree in the United Kingdom in 2007 and Group Scout Leader in his time with the Group. He received his Wood Badge in 1997 and has gone on to earn the Medal of Merit, The Silver Acorn and more recently the Chief Scout’s 40 years service award in 2017 and a year earlier earned the Bar to the Silver Acorn. Barry was Scout Leader from 1977 up until 2014 when he took on the role of the Group Scout Leader. Barry continues to be a pivotal part of 4th Runcorn and his dedication to the Group and Scouting is recognised by many within the Scouting movement.
